A similar survey conducted by China CDC in 2014 and

Despite a general decline, great difficulties still exist for China to bring

down the percentage of smokers to 20 percent by 2030, China CDC said in a statement.

The survey, released ahead of World No Tobacco Day, which falls on Friday, showed increasing public support for tobacco

control. More than 90 percent of those surveyed said they support a total ban on tobacco in the workplace, and mo

re than 95 percent said they support banning smoking in hospitals, middle and primary schools and public tr

The survey showed adult smokers generally lack the willingness to quit, with only 16 percent planning to quit within the year.

New vaccines could combat swine fevermay have fou

Chinese scientists have developed two possible vaccines for the African swine fever virus, the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences announced on Friday.

The research was led by Harbin Veterinary Research Institute, in Harbin, Heilongjiang province, which is affiliated to the academy.

Researchers have determined the minimum amount required to produce adequate immunization, and hav

e proved they are safe when used in large quantity and repetitively, the academy said, adding more research and tests are nee

ded before the vaccines can be submitted to authorities for inspection and approval.

Currently there is no effective vaccine for African swine fever, although

research and development of potential vaccines is underway in some countries.

Last year, a few days before the incident, Zhou sent a mes

Previous reports said Zhou confessed to police after the incident that w

On Dec 12, 2018, Zhou went to Beijing for a trip. Two days later in the evening, Xie Diao met Zh

it its lowest level since November. Trade talks betw

ween China and the United States recently faltered and a large amount of additional tariffs are expected to be imposed on imports from both sides.

China will take necessary measures, in response to foreign exchange market flu

ctuations, including using a strengthened risk management system, said Pan.

He also stressed that authorities would crack down on illegal activities in foreign exchange trading.

“China has sufficient policy tools,” said Pan, who is also director of th

e State Administration of Foreign Exchange, the country’s foreign exchange regulator.

The PBOC vice-governor also confirmed on Sunday that China will continually implement

opening-up policies and improve the environment for overseas investors and protect the legal rights of foreign investors.

China and the US started tit-for-tat tariff exchanges in July,

when the first round of tariffs on $34 billion worth of Chinese goods

took effect. There has been strong opposition to the tariff measures from the US side.

Joe Biden, a Democratic candidate for US president, said on Monda

y, “The only people paying the price are farmers and working people right now”.

“Raising tariffs will hurt both the US and China economies, plus more importantly, they will hurt US farmers, co

nsumers and businesses,” tweeted Republican Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa, a major soybean-producing state.

The world’s two largest economies have intensified their consultations to iron out differe

nces on existing trade issues. An 11th round of high-level talks was held in Washington on Thursday and Friday.

Shanghai hotels no longer provide disposables automatically

Hotels in Shanghai will no longer automatically provide disposable daily necessities such as toothbrush, comb and shaver f

rom July 1 as a regulation on household waste will come into effect in the city on the day, People’s Daily reported.

Around 4.8 billion guests booked into 440,000 hotels in China in 2017, as per data. More than 70 percent o

f soaps are thrown away after being used once, a survey shows. Calculated by weight, each hotel t

hrows away 2.5 kg disposable soaps every day and 440,000 hotels would throw away more than 400,000 tons

of soaps every year. If each ton of soaps costs 20,000 yuan, that would be 8 billion yuan worth of soap.

Apart from soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, comb, shampoo and bath foam are often discarded

after one-time use. It’s not only a waste of money, but also a burden for environment as many articles are non-degradable.

Uber’s shares ended the day down 7.6% at $41.57, even as t

the S&P 500 reversed losses to end in positive territory. Only about a fifth of IPOs have

ended their first day of trading in the red in the last two years, according to Dealogic data.

Uber priced its IPO on Thursday at the low end of its targeted ra

nge, hoping that approach would spare it the trading plunge suffered by Lyft.

Lyft ended down 6.9% on Friday, and is 28 percent below its IPO price.

Still, the world’s largest ride-hailing company appeared to generate m

ore interest from mom-and-pop investors than Lyft. Retail investors at TD Am

eritrade executed more trades in the first ten minutes of Uber’s debut than in Lyft’s first 2-1/2 hours.

Uber had already lowered its valuation expectations twice in the last two months to address investor concerns over its mounting losses.

Instead of the traditional way where a voice artist records

lines alone, this collaborative approach allows the voice-over performer to see the emotional cha

nges acted by others, prompting a natural reaction from an individual performer, according to Date.

“I heard that some foreign fans are learning Japanese so that they can understand the original version. We’re very proud of that,” says Date.

He adds that he hopes Chinese animators will continue to take inspiration from th

eir own culture and similarly encourage overseas audiences to learn Chinese.

Currently codirecting the anime series Magmell of the Sea Blue, a Sino-Japanese animated ser

es adapted from a Chinese comic book story of the same title, Date says he still marvels at the story’s so

phisticated narrative, which centers around the adventures of a rescuer of explorers on a newly formed continent.

Interestingly, more and more foreign animation filmmakers are seeking inspiration from China.

Marsden reveals that Sony is partnering with Base Animation in Xiamen, East China’s Fujian province, to produce the animated feature Wish Dragon.

Lovren celebrates scoring their fourth goal during the Ch

England — Liverpool delivered the greatest in a long line of famous comebacks to reach the Champions Leagu

e final on Tuesday, beating Lionel Messi’s Barcelona 4-0 at Anfield to overturn a three-goal deficit from the first leg.

Divock Origi scored twice, either side of goals by halftime substitute Georginio Wijnaldum early in the second half, to send Liverp

ool into its second straight final and set up a meeting with either Ajax or Tottenham on June 1.

It was only the third time in the history of the European Cup that a team ca

me from three goals down after the first leg of a semifinal and progressed to the final, afte

r Panathinaikos in 1970-71 and Barcelona in 1985-86. No team had done it in the Champions League era.

The comeback was all the more unlikely given that Liverpool was witho

ut two of its first-choice forward line, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino.

Instead, it was Origi — the scorer of the crucial fourth goal in the 79th minute — who made the seemingly impossible, possi

ble. And it needed some remarkable ingenuity from Trent Alexander-Arnold, who pretended to walk away from taking a co

rner before quickly spinning round and sending in a low cross as Barcelona’s players dawdled. Origi swept in the finish.
